USATF Foundation and Dogwood Track Classic partner to host Dogwood High Performance event

Charlottesville, VA – The USATF Foundation and meet directors for the Dogwood Track Classic are excited to announce the addition of elite fields to the high school meet schedule, known now as Dogwood High Performance. In its first year, the Dogwood High Performance meet will include two professional fields: the Men’s Long Jump and the Women’s 1500m.

The Dogwood Track Classic, held in Charlottesville since 1965, is the oldest and most prestigious high school track meet in the south. It routinely attracts the top prep athletics talent from throughout the mid-Atlantic area. The meet takes place on May 6-7 at The University of Virginia’s Lannigan Field, with the Dogwood High Performance events scheduled for Saturday afternoon.

Athletes can expect several thousand enthusiastic spectators, as in addition to the high school athletes, coaches, and parents, Charlottesville has a supportive crowd of running fans throughout the area. The meet, with its crowds, great weather and a fast track at the University of Virginia, routinely produces some of the top prep performances each year. Current USATF stars such as Grant Holloway, Drew Hunter, and Weini Kelati competed at Dogwood while in high school.

Funding will be available for athletes who compete in the Dogwood High Performance. Interested athletes or their representation should contact Bert Jacoby, Elite Athlete Coordinator, at bert.jacoby@gmail.com or 540-846-4456.
