Team USATF has over twice as many internationally ranked Masters track & field athletes than the next two highest countries, Germany and England. However, in the last seven World Masters Athletics (“WMA”) Championships, Team USATF has finished as the top non-host medal winner only twice. Unlike other USA international teams, Team USATF’s Masters athletes must pay all their own travel expenses. As a result, many of the top Team USATF Masters athletes have been unable to participate in WMA Championships because of financial constraints.
The USATF Foundation has partnered with the USATF Masters Track & Field Committee to provide an ongoing source of travel grant support for outstanding Team USATF Masters Track & Field athletes. The WMA Travel Grant Program will award grants to Team USATF Masters Track & Field athletes on an annual basis. The next three WMA World Championships are:
Tampere, Finland; June 29–July 10, 2022
Edmonton, Canada; March 27–April 3, 2023
Gothenburg, Sweden; dates TBD

The WMA Travel Grant Program will grant money to elite athletes as determined by their performance rankings and, medal results. Grants can be used to cover travel and meet expenses. The USATF Foundation does not discriminate in its WMA Travel Grant selection process on the basis of race, color, national origin, creed, marital status, sex, disability, age, gender identity or sexual orientation.
