30 Sep USA Track & Field Foundation continues to support distance training centers across the country through encouragement of physical activity on Plus 3
INDIANAPOLIS – The USA Track & Field Foundation utilizes a creative approach to forge ahead with the Foundation’s overarching mission to give financial aid to deserving runners and Track & Field athletes. The Foundation enables fans and supporters of distance running to log healthy activities on a website, and for every activity logged, a monetary donation goes to one of five USA Distance Centers.
Using this innovative way to engage fans, five selected USA Distance Centers have received over $23,000 thus far in 2014. Since the implementation of the program in 2012, the Foundation has donated over $65,888 to the Distance Centers.
Athletes in the USA Distance Centers invest their time and energy each day for the dream to represent Team USA in professional running on an international level. Their struggles financially are what inspired the USA Track & Field Foundation to sponsor five different running clubs and organizations on Plus 3: NY NJ Track Club, Team USA Minnesota, Team Furman Elite, Team Rogue, and ZAP Fitness.
“Your ongoing financial and moral support of our program over the years is amazing and very much appreciated. It makes everything we do for our ZAP athletes and the sport of distance running possible. We would not be where we are today without ZAP supporters like you,” said President of Zap Fitness, Zika Rea.
Fans, supporters, and any member of the public who would like to turn their exercise into money for a USA Distance Center can log onto www.plus3network.com/usatffoundation – and choose a center to support. Thanks to the USA Track & Field Foundation, it’s all free.
Plus 3 was co-developed by USA Track & Field Foundation Director, Joe Fabris, a former distance runner himself, in 2009. Thanks to this innovative program people are challenged each day to exercise and be healthier than ever before. Every day funds are accumulated for specific organizations according to the minutes of physical activity that the public performs. Plus 3 is two-fold in that it assists the clubs with the funding they need while simultaneously involving and challenging fans and the general public to get active and stay active.
Zap Fitness’ success is a direct result of the efforts put forth by the public and the generosity of the USA Track & Field Foundation. “We have added 5 new athletes, who with the 3 veterans in the program, all have their focus set firmly on the 2016 Olympic Trials. The talent level of the program is the best it has ever been and we look forward to putting athletes on national teams and competing in and winning major races during this Olympic cycle.”
Plus 3 is an amazing program that is reaching impressive milestones with new heights of participation. The program has many easy ways to log healthy activities, including a free smartphone app with GPS function to track your miles and fitness levels, as well as integrating with FitBit® and Garmin® devices to make recording and accessibility even easier. In addition to encouraging and instilling habits of physical activity, Plus 3 also motivates healthy habits including but not limited to: eating fruits and veggies, staying away from soda and energy drinks and brushing your teeth.
Through the accumulation of “kudos” you can watch how much you personally assist the donation for athletes in need. The athletes depend on the public to do their part. It’s a unique platform that forces our country to get active and stay healthy while supporting the dreams of Team USA.
