Wayne Vandenburg Named to USATF Foundation Board of Directors

INDIANAPOLIS – Wayne Vandenburg has been named as a Director of the USA Track & Field Foundation Board, USATF Foundation Executive Director Tom Jackovic and Chairman Bob Greifeld announced today.wayne-vandenburg-2

Mr. Vandenburg heads TVO Groupe and its various domestic and international operating and investment affiliates as Chairman where his primary responsibilities include overall corporate leadership, strategy and new business initiatives.

In 1983, Mr. Vandenburg founded TVO with his younger brother and has been specifically responsible for negotiating, structuring and managing institutional investment partnerships both in the US and internationally. TVO’s investment focus has had primary emphasis in the multifamily property sector where it has owned and managed over 50,000 apartment units in the core-plus and value-add investment sector as well as assets in the industrial, hospitality and office property sectors.

Mr. Vandenburg is an active member of several national and international professional organizations including the Board of Directors of the National Multifamily Housing Council (“NMHC”) and the Multifamily Green Council of the Urban Land Institute (“ULI”); he previously served as a member of the Mortgage Bankers of America (“MBA”), the Pension Real Estate Association (“PREA”), the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (“NAREIT”) and the Real Estate Round Table.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Vandenburg was a track & field athlete at the University of New Mexico where, following graduation, he became the assistant track & field coach. At the age of 24, he was appointed the head cross country and track & field coach at Texas Western College, which during his tenure, became the University of Texas at El Paso or “UTEP”. He is widely credited with building the nationally acclaimed cross country and track & field programs which produced one Olympic Champion, two World Record-Holders, 57 NCAA All Americans, 11 NCAA Individual Champions, one 1st Place NCAA Team Championship, a 2nd Place NCAA Team Championship, two 3rd Place NCAA Team Championships and four other Top 7 NCAA Team Championship finishes during the course of five NCAA Championship Years (1968 – 72). After leaving UTEP, he joined the International Track Association (“ITA”) in an administrative capacity, and later acquired a Double AA Minor League Baseball Team (El Paso Diablos), performed “special assignment” work related to player personnel for the Dallas Cowboys, and founded a Professional Volleyball Team (the El Paso / Juarez Sol) where he was a league founder of the International Volleyball Association (“IVA”) with several major entertainment and sports industry moguls including Barry Diller, Martin Starger, David Gerber, Berry Gordy, David Wolper, Michael O’ Hara and Peter Ueberroth. He completed his formal education at the University of New Mexico (“UNM”) and later served on the athletic staffs of UNM and the University of Texas at El Paso (“UTEP”).  Mr. Vandenburg is a member of the City of El Paso Hall of Fame as well as the UTEP Hall of Fame.

Mr. Vandenburg has two grown children and three granddaughters.  He lives with his wife in the north Dallas suburb of Frisco, Texas and maintains a residence in Chicago where his office is headquartered.

Hopefully, I will make a noteworthy contribution and bring additional energy and scope to the USATF Foundation’s Board and operating platform,” said Mr. Vandenburg.



The USATF Foundation provides a means to attract and guide funds to new and innovative track and field programs with an emphasis on providing opportunities for youth athletes, emerging and experienced elite athletes, along with guidance on future career paths. The Foundation depends upon donations from its Board of Directors, major gifts, and from generous fans of track & field.

Elite athletes are supported by the Foundation via monetary grants, career counseling (mentoring and jobs) and participation in Run With US!. Youth athletes are supported via monetary grants to youth clubs.
