USATF Foundation grant recipient wins gold & bronze medals in Doha3-19-2010DOHA - USATF Foundation grant recipient Jamaal Torrance was awarded a gold medal as a member of the winning 4 X 400 meter relay team and a bronze medal in the individual 400 meter run at the recently completed IAAF World Indoor Championships, announced USATF Foundation Executive Director Tom Jackovic and Chairman Bob Greifeld. Jamaal’s gold follows up Lionel Larry’s and Stephanie Brown Trafton’s gold medals in the 2009 Outdoor World Championships (4X400 meter relay) and the discus throw from the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, respectively. “We’re delighted to see Jamaal’s continued progression and success, culminating with his winning two medals at the Championships,” said Jackovic. “With the 2012 Olympic Games not far on the horizon, it’s very gratifying to see the Foundation playing a part in helping Jamaal and other elite athletes realize their dreams.” The USATF Foundation provides a means to attract and guide funds to new and innovative track and field programs with an emphasis on providing opportunities for youth athletes, emerging athletes, distance training centers and anti-doping education. The Foundation continues to impact the sport as evidenced by the just completed USATF Indoor National Championships, where 5 individual grantee athletes and 4 Distance Project Training Center athletes made the team going to Doha last weekend. The Foundation depends upon donations from its Board of Directors and from generous fans of track & field.
