USATF Foundation grant recipients excel at USA Track & Field Indoor Championships

"5 GRANTEES MAKE TEAM USA AND HEAD TO THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN DOHA"

INDIANAPOLIS - At the recently completed 2010 USA Indoor Track & Field Championships held in Albuquerque, five USA Track & Field Foundation Elite Grant recipients qualified to represent the United States at the World Indoor Championships in Doha, March 12-14, announced Foundation Executive Director Tom Jackovic and Chairman Bob Greifeld. Athletes had to finish in the top 2 of their event and meet qualifying standards.

“It is very gratifying to see these athletes attaining their goals,” said Jackovic. “The Foundation looks forward to helping even more athletes reach and exceed their goals in the future. with an eye on the 2012 London Olympic Games.”

Foundation grants were awarded to individual athletes based upon criteria that included each athlete’s event, recent performance and financial need. In addition, the Foundation’s Distance Project supports athletes through grants to elite training centers, where four athletes also made Team USA.

The following athletes are now members of Team USA and headed to Doha:

Individual grantees:

  • Brianna Glenn – 4-time grantee - - Women’s Long Jump
  • Cory Martin – ‘09 grant - - Men's Shot Put
  • David Oliver – ’08 & ‘09 grants - -Men’s 60 Meter Hurdles
  • Brandon Rouhlac – ‘09 grant - - Men's Triple Jump
  • Jamaal Torrance – ’08 grant - - Men's 400 Meters

Sarah Stevens achieved the IAAF qualifying standard, but narrowly missed out, finishing a close 3rd place in the Women’s Shot Put.

Distance Project Training Center athletes:

The USATF Foundation provides a means to attract and guide funds to new and innovative track and field programs with an emphasis on providing opportunities for youth athletes, emerging elite athletes, distance training centers and anti-doping education.
