USATF Foundation Grant recipient wins gold in Berlin8-26-2009Berlin, Germany - USATF Foundation grant recipient Lionel Larry was awarded a gold medal as a member of the winning 4 X 400 meter relay team at the recently completed IAAF World Outdoor Championships in Athletics. Larry becomes the second Foundation grant recipient to win gold, following Stephanie Brown Trafton’s gold medal in the discus last year in Beijing. “It was a great experience to walk away with the gold, especially with having USA on my chest,” said Larry. “The Foundation provided me a boost when I came out of college, and that support allowed me to concentrate on training. It was definitely a factor in my success.” The USATF Foundation provides a means to attract and guide funds to new and innovative track and field programs with an emphasis on providing opportunities for youth athletes, emerging athletes and anti-doping education. The Foundation continues to impact the sport as evidenced by the just completed USATF National Championships, where 10 individual grantee athletes and 6 Distance Project Training Center athletes made the team going to Berlin last month.
