Mark James named to USATF Foundation Board of Directors7-30-2009INDIANAPOLIS - Mark James, President and CEO of Frias Holding Company, has been named as a Director of the USA Track & Field Foundation Board, USATF Foundation Executive Director Tom Jackovic and Chairman Bob Greifeld announced today. “We are very excited to have Mark on board,” said Jackovic. “He comes from a family of track athletes and the sport is truly a passion for him.” Mr. James received his Bachelor’s degree from Lewis and Clark University, where he also participated in collegiate track & field. In Incline Village, Nevada, he was a standout high school sprinter, placing third in the 440 yard dash and second in the long jump at the 1977 state meet. He also anchored Incline’s top mile and 440 relay teams. Frias, established 47 years ago by Charles and Phyllis Frias, is the largest taxicab operator in Las Vegas. It also operates a limousine and bus company, and manages substantial real estate assets. Mr. James served as a Nevada State Senator for ten years and later as a Clark County Commissioner. After working in the United States Senate in 1981, he received his J.D. from the University of Arizona in 1985. In Texas and Nevada, he practiced law for twenty-one years in the area of business litigation. He and his wife Lori have two college age children and reside in Las Vegas. The USATF Foundation provides a means to attract and guide funds to new and innovative track and field programs with an emphasis on providing opportunities for youth athletes, emerging athletes and anti-doping education. The Foundation continues to impact the sport as evidenced by the just completed USATF National Championships, where 8 individual grantee athletes and four Distance Project Training Center athletes made the team going to Berlin next month.
