Maggie Vessey, Elite Grant recipient, wins the prestigous 800 meters at Prefontaine Classic

INDIANAPOLIS - Maggie Vessey, a 2009 Elite Grant recipient (and recipient of a Foundation UnderArmour package), was the surprise winner of the 800 meters Sunday, at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, OR.

A last minute addition to the field, Maggie not only set a personal best of 2:00.18, she also beat the top Americans and the #1 ranked woman in the world & 2008 Olympic Champion, Pamela Jelimo.

Maggie's reaction after crossing the finish line said it all, "Oh my God!"

At the Reebok Grand Prix just one week earlier, the ever-improving Vessey ran 2:01.49, at the time, a personal best.

The Foundation Elite Athlete Grant Program contributes to the pursuit of world-class performances by American post-collegiate track and field athletes. Athletes must meet minimum performance standards to be eligible and must also participate in the Win With Integrity program.
