in Will's words:

"Last year I was awarded one of several Elite Athlete Development Grants. The grant was very helpful and allowed me to limit my work hours to concentrate on training."

Born in Portland, Oregon and raised in Kent, Washington, Will Conwell was introduced to Track and Field by his Aunt Pauline and Uncle Ernie. Both were outstanding track and field athletes who encouraged Conwell to give the throwing events a try. Will began throwing the shot put in 7th grade and quickly realized his passion for Track and Field. He went on to set school records through high school and win the Washington State Shot put title in 2000.  In 2002, after playing two years with the University of Washington football team, Conwell decided to focus solely on throwing. He has improved each year and is now among the top 50 in the world in the men’s discus.

Will graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Geography, with at focus in Geographic Information Systems. He currently manages 3 apartments, 1 house, does marketing and sales for a screen printer, works as a concrete cutter, a referee, and a contractor. He has dedicated himself to whatever it takes to support his wife, Kate (former UW Pole Vaulter and 2005 NCAA Champion), and his dream of competing for the USA in the 2012 Olympics.

Will Conwell is also an active volunteer coach at the University of Washington, a board member for Club Northwest (a local track club), a volunteer for Overlake Community Church kids ministry, and a frequent Ironwood throwing camp coach.

Thanks,

Will Conwell, Discus Throw
