He has been the alternate for the Olympic and World Team, and trains hard to continue his dream to relinquish the alternate status and represent the USA uniform!" Adam was born in Heidelberg, Germany, while his dad was stationed there during the Cold War. In a military family Adam learned that good things came to those who were dedicated and worked hard. He did so off and “in” the discus circle. He was very athletic even at an early age. He played football, was a regional Punt, Pass and Kick champion and in the spring, he threw the shot-put, discus and ran the 100m and mile in middle school, excelling at all. It was during his 7th grade year at age 13 that he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. This was only a few months after his younger brother David, was diagnosed. Such a strange occurrence, given his mother and father had no family history of Type 1. In high school, Adam played quarterback, defensive end and punter. After a couple years of ongoing back injuries he decided to pursue only track. As a freshman, he only threw 108 feet in the discus. Without much coaching help he worked extremely hard to improve to 197’ as a junior and 209’ as a senior. He finished as a 2 time All-American in High School and signed to compete at the University of Arizona. In college, great teammates and tremendous coaches - John Frazier and Craig Carter - inspired Adam. The U of A produced an environment that was the best for producing far throws! He finished his career at Arizona with 5 NCAA All American Awards (3 discus, 2 shot-put). He was NCAA runner up in 2006 and PAC 10 runner up in 2004 and 2006. He holds the school record at 213’2 from 2007. Adam loves to talk to and help others with or without diabetes. He has spoken at a few events and enjoys inspiring others. He relaxes by playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as often as he can. He has a Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Education and is looking for a career in Strength & Conditioning and/or Throws coaching at a collegiate and professional level. He will attempt to get his masters degree in the next couple years. It should also be stated Adam is a die-hard Green Bay Packer Fan.
